Product Description

This roll-top bureau features a tambour with a central ormolu applique depicting Minerva is topped by a half-inch slab of variegated pink and gray marble, featuring a pierced three-quarter gallery, and flanked by a marquetry panel to each side.  The tableau on the left depicts Astronomy, the one on the right Geography.  Inside is a leather-lined pull-out along with five pigeon-holes and four short drawers.  The back of the desk is also inlaid with military and naval trophies flanking a central ormolu applique.  Each side is similarly inlaid and feature two additional writing surfaces that extend from each side for added convenience and workspace.  Above the 24 inch tall knee-hole is a frieze drawer flanked by a deep drawer on the right and two short drawers with floral marquetry on the left.  Finishing out the desk are square tapering cabriole legs headed by foliate-cast clasps with pierced sabots.  Early 19th Century
